Social Media Awareness with Diane Wasilisian

This program will address security settings, 10 ways to keep your child safe online, 5 things to never post on Facebook, what to be aware of for your high school grad and your college grad who have online profiles. Unfortunately most parents and young people don’t realize the negative impact and how important it is to be more conscientious of the types of postings made, what to know about privacy settings, and importance of what not to post ever on social media sites. We will also address cell phone usage by children and some of the important things that should be considered when allowing a young child or tween to have a cell phone. Included in this discussion will be rules, amount of usage, possible inappropriate use towards others or sexting concerns.

Diane is also a speaker, trainer and strategist in social media. She helps organizations expand, define and leverage their online footprint for increased profit and optimal return on relationships (ROR). She is involved in social media awareness because she has young grandchildren. While helping her son and daughter with their kid’s access to online communities she realized there was a real need to help parents, tweens, teens, college grads and parents with understanding the impact social media/online communities might have on their children’s current lives and future opportunities.

Diane speaks to how parents need to be proactive in discussing rules, having their child’s log on info and then monitoring their online activity regularly. She even includes in her talks the use of cell phones by the very young and teenagers.

Currently Diane is writing a book called Social Media Awareness, “Are you going to let social media determine your child’s future?” This book will have this important information in detail including families stories, examples of how to do things and screen shots to help anyone who needs to know what to do to keep their child safe online.
